Stiff 4-5 shift, changing sprockets

I'm still having a problem with a stiff 4-5 shift. When I lift the lever, it makes kind of a half-click, but I need to continue to hold the lever (and sometimes increase the pressure) until it moves in the rest of the way. I understand that many Savages have this problem. Has anyone successfully cured it? I've run both regular and synthetic oil to no avail.

Also, it would be really nice to increase the overall ratio. My guess is that the rear sprocket would be the best place to start. Has anyone done this? I assume that Suzuki does not make a smaller sprocket (were the 86-88 four speeds the same?). Does anyone have information on the pitch? Is it the same as H-D?

Thanks,

Davo
